With ‘Manufactories of caring space-time’ the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, the 49 Nord 6 Est FRAC Lorraine in Metz (France) and the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona (Spain) create a platform for reflection on the relational, the collective and collaborative as new tendencies in art. The cooperation project is co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Creative Europe Programme.
Collaboration and art
During two years and in three different cultural institutions, three artist collectives will produce a project in close collaboration with the local communities. They explore the possibilities of collective and more sustainable art practices. Broken objects, neglected sources of knowledge and minor gestures are recovered, conserved and transformed within different disciplines (visual arts, dance, sociology).
The (re)interpretation and (re)valuation of discarded practices stir up the depleted economic models and art circuits. The collective creation and reflection process travels form location to location to culminate in a final exhibition in MSK Gent in May 2017.

Protocols for the future
Each of the three projects that were part of 'Manufactories' was translated into a hands-on protocol or guideline. This will allow other organisations to create their own workshops, based on the lessons learned during the two years of experimentation in Belgium, France and Spain. The protocols ensure a continuation of this work beyond the boundaries of the original institutions.
