The Virgin Mary visits her cousin Elisabeth. Standing in the doorway are Zacharias and Joseph. On the left in the background we see the birth of John the Baptist. Through the window we can see Joseph and Mary returning to Nazareth. Above the window is a medallion depicting the annunciation. Several elements of the scene are accompanied by letters corresponding to the legend in the margin.
