The French artist Paul Leroy (1860-1942) was educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was a pupil of Alexandre Cabanel. He participated in various salons and won several prizes. In 1884 he became a laureate. He also won the prix de Rome. In 1893, he was a founding member of the Société des Peintres orientalistes. He became known as a portrait and landscape painter, orientalist and illustrator.
