In 1860, the Brussels-based Société royale de Flore celebrated its 200th anniversary. On this occasion, the society had this elegant medal engraved by Leopold Wiener. This depiction of Flora became a standard medal for this society and later for the Société Royale Linnéenne because it is regularly found for all kinds of different occasions. Each time, the reverse is different while the obverse sometimes bears a caption as, for example, for the large gold medal awarded by the Société Royale Linnéenne during the Floralies of the World Fair in Ghent in 1913.
