Heinrich Funk specialised in panoramic mountain landscapes which he painted on large formats. In Landscape at Dusk in Tyrol the artist focuses on contrasting light effects. Opposite the dark mountain lake, Funk places a light accent in the rocks on the banks. This choice of dynamic and desolate areas, and areas of light and shade, with the lake as an intermediate zone, was characteristic of the stylistic principle in German Romantic landscape painting.
