This bust is connected to the monumental sculpture in bronze and Carrara marble by Charles Samuel, Tijl and Nele, created as a tribute to the writer Charles De Coster. The bronze statue was inaugurated in 1894 in Ixelles, and the municipal authorities of Knokke acquired the original marble version in 1952.
