Attached to a rock at centre, two hermits are seated inside the cave at top centre, flanked by Saint Elijah and Saint John the Baptist in top corners. Four female figures flank the title: 'Prayer' and 'Silence' at left; 'Meditation' and 'Self-Discipline' at right. In lower corners, two female saints are seated: St Mary of Egypt and St Mary Magdalene.
