Augustus II (the Younger), duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and prince of Wolfenbüttel, is represented with curly hair, beard, cap, lace collar and armour. The portrait is represented in an oval border with Latin inscription with a coat of arms above and surrounded by ornaments of winged figures and animals, and with Latin inscription on the plinth below. This plate was first engraved in 1652 for a series of portraits of European political figures involved in the establishment of the Peace of Westphalia (1648). However, the number '18' engraved in the bottom corner indicates that this print was published as part of the second or third printing in 1696 and 1697 respectively by Pieter van der Slaart.
