Paul Lambotte was honorary director of the Ministry of Arts and Sciences. He held a doctorate in law but became especially well known as an art lover and critic, writing several books on the visual arts. In 1922, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, he was celebrated and immortalized on this medal, the reverse of which features the attributes of the fine arts.
