The two brothers Joseph Shepherd and Alfred Benjamin, from the renowned English engraver family Wyon, designed this prestigious medal. It was issued on October 2, 1884, to mark the opening of the new reception hall of London’s Guildhall, the gathering place for the guilds. On the obverse, a queen is depicted standing before her throne, surrounded by several ladies holding various objects: a quiver, a caduceus, a cornucopia, books, and a globe. On the reverse, the interior of the new hall is shown, along with several inscriptions.
