In 1913, Alphonse De Witte organised a "Salon Internationale de la Médaille" during the World Fair in Ghent. 13 countries were represented with a total of 197 exhibitors who together displayed 3,183 of their works. François Wissaert designed this beautiful plaque titled "Orphée" as a reward for musical celebrations and competitions, for which he received a bronze award. The obverse depicts Orpheus holding his lyre. The reverse shows a singing bird on the branch of a tree.
