This award medal of the Academy of Sciences in Berlin, minted from 1906 to 1910, depicts on the obverse its founder Gottfried Wilhelm Leibnitz, who founded the Academy in 1700. The German Leibnitz was a versatile man who is considered one of the greatest thinkers of the 17th century. He was engaged in mathematics, physics, history, law, theology, logic and diplomacy. He published many works, but above all, his tens of thousands of letters are a source of inspiration.
