This medal of honour from friends, colleagues and students is a tribute to Professor Emmanuel-Simon Duplay (1836-1924). Duplay studied medicine in Paris and obtained his doctorate in 1865. In 1880, he became professor of surgery and a member of the Académie de Médicine. Through his many publications, he became an authority in various fields of medicine and surgery. On the front of the plaque, the professor is portrayed in a toga; on the reverse, you can see an allegory of the sciences and medicine: a woman is leafing through a large book listing all kinds of medical branches.
